MEET MEREDITH

Meredith is the founder and owner of Wild + Sage Heart. She has dedicated much of her adult life to healing and transformation, focusing on the integration of the heart, body, and mind, both personally and professionally. Her Mexican-American and Eastern European mixed-race ancestry, committed relationship with the Earth, and dedicated meditation practice informs Meredith’s work as a therapist and guide, in addition to her commitment to social and environmental justice. She is particularly passionate about and skilled in supporting those in the helping profession, environmentalists, and change-makers, recognizing the importance of addressing the health and well-being of those who are also supporting our community.

EDUCATION and training

Meredith’s path began with working in the HIV/AIDS field and she was guided toward the field of social work and public health. Meredith first earned her Master of Social Welfare in 2007 and continued on for another year to complete her Master of Public Health in 2008, both from the University of California, Berkeley. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker since 2012 (License # LCS 29015), she spent over a decade working with young people, first as a clinical social worker in the Oakland and San Francisco Unified School Districts and later as a psychotherapist at Sonoma State University. It was during her early days as a social worker, in 2008, that Meredith sat her first silent meditation retreat and has continued to sit several retreats a year and study Buddhist philosophy. Her meditation practice and connection to mindfulness led her to be trained in Hakomi Mindfulness-Centered Somatic Psychotherapy in 2018, at which time she was encouraged to open her own private practice and work individually with teens and adults. With her passion for the environment and knowing nature as a healer and teacher, she became certified as an Ecotherapist in 2020 through Holos Institute and furthered her training as a Wilderness Rites of Passage Guide, completing the Somatic Ecopsychology and Wilderness Quest Apprenticeship with Wilderness Reflections in 2022. Meredith continues to seek training and expand her skillset, most recently becoming a certified California Naturalist in 2022 and Climate Steward in 2023.

teachers & inspiration

Meredith acknowledges that there are many paths leading toward healing and growth and that we are not meant to do this journey of the heart alone. She is influenced by her many teachers, especially the wisdom provided by the Earth, practices in Theravada Buddhism and Shamanism, the Yoga Sutras, Roshi Joan Halifax and Joanna Macy’s The Work that Reconnects. When not working with clients or walking with her dog, you will find her dancing with life. Meredith’s dance entails pausing to notice the hummingbirds, pondering green burials, engaging in social and environmentalism activism, practicing yoga, creating pottery, listening to the wildflowers and earth’s medicine, journeying up mountains, tending to her garden, and building community wherever her heart guides her.
